Federico Sainz de Robles

CEO and Founder of Sepiia

Federico Sainz de Robles is the CEO and Founder of Sepiia, a clothing brand that manufactures its products in local workshops, ensuring sustainable production processes both in manufacturing and the final product. All their clothing items are 100% recyclable, thus reducing environmental impact and carbon footprint. Additionally, they use technology that creates antibacterial, wrinkle-free, and stain-repellent garments through a 3D structure. Sepiia also demonstrates a strong commitment to ocean conservation, actively collaborating on various projects to recover and recycle plastics.

1. As an engineer and founder of Sepiia, what motivated you to create garments that are not only functional but also sustainable?

From the beginning, my motivation was to solve a real problem: how to create garments that fit our lifestyle, are practical and, at the same time, responsible to the planet? My engineering background led me to become obsessed with functionality and technology, but when I founded Sepiia, I understood that that functionality had to be at the service of a more sustainable world. There was no point in developing cutting-edge technology if it didn’t help minimise environmental impact. That duality between innovation and sustainability is what drives every decision at Sepiia.

2. Sepiia stands out for its commitment to sustainability and innovation in smart textiles. Can you tell us how you integrate recycled materials and sustainable processes into the design and production of your garments?

At Sepiia we use recycled materials such as Seaqual yarn, which comes from plastics collected from the ocean, transforming waste into something useful. But we don’t stop there: our production is designed to reduce water and chemical consumption, and we develop fabrics that last longer, avoiding the cycle of purchase and disposal. We also apply technologies such as anti-stain and anti-bacterial finishes so that garments require less washing, prolonging their useful life and reducing their environmental impact. Every step counts

3. The fashion industry is evolving towards more responsible practices. How do you see the future of sustainable fashion and what role does Sepiia play in this change?

Sustainable fashion is no longer a trend, it is a necessity. The future lies in rethinking how we design, produce and consume clothes, and here innovation will be key. I believe that brands must be radically transparent and proactive, integrating technology and circularity from the start. At Sepiia, we want to be a reference for how to do things differently: to lead with practical solutions that combine functionality, design and sustainability to demonstrate that we can have a positive impact without sacrificing style and comfort.

4. We know that the oceans are vital for the environmental balance. How does Sepiia contribute to the protection of marine ecosystems or to minimising the environmental impact on the oceans?

At Sepiia, we believe that protecting the oceans is fundamental for the planet. That’s why we collaborate with initiatives such as Seaqual, recovering plastics from the sea to transform them into recycled fabrics. But our contribution doesn’t stop at materials: we design clothes that generate less microplastics when washed and promote more conscious consumption. Our aim is to create a positive impact at every stage of the product life cycle, helping to preserve marine ecosystems for future generations.
