CEO and Founder of Sepiia
Federico Sainz de Robles is the CEO and founder of Sepiia, a clothing brand whose production is carried out in local workshops and designed to be sustainable both in its process and its final result. All garments are 100% recyclable, helping to reduce environmental impact and carbon footprint.
In addition, they use a technology based on a 3D structure to create antibacterial, wrinkle-free, and stain-repellent garments.
Their commitment to ocean protection is strong: they actively collaborate on projects focused on plastic recovery and recycling.
1. As an engineer and founder of Sepiia, what motivated you to create garments that are not only functional but also sustainable?
From the beginning, my motivation was to solve a real problem: how can we create garments that adapt to our pace of life, are practical, and at the same time responsible with the planet?
My engineering background led me to focus on functionality and technology, but when I founded Sepiia, I realized that this functionality had to serve a more sustainable world. There was no point in developing cutting-edge technology if it did not help minimize environmental impact.
This balance between innovation and sustainability is what guides every decision at Sepiia.

2. Sepiia stands out for its commitment to sustainability and innovation in smart textiles. Could you tell us how you integrate recycled materials and sustainable processes into the design and production of your garments?
At Sepiia, we use recycled materials such as Seaqual yarn, which comes from plastics collected from the ocean, transforming waste into something useful. But we don’t stop there: our production is designed to reduce water and chemical consumption, and we develop fabrics that last longer, avoiding the cycle of purchase and disposal.
We also apply technologies such as stain-resistant and antibacterial finishes so garments require fewer washes, extending their lifespan and reducing environmental impact. Every step counts.
3. The fashion industry is evolving toward more responsible practices. How do you see the future of sustainable fashion, and what role does Sepiia play in this transformation?
Sustainable fashion is no longer a trend, it is a necessity. The future lies in rethinking how we design, produce, and consume clothing, with innovation playing a key role. I believe brands must be radically transparent and proactive, integrating technology and circularity from the very beginning.
At Sepiia, we aim to be a benchmark for doing things differently: leading with practical solutions that combine functionality, design, and sustainability, proving that we can create positive impact without sacrificing style or comfort.

4. We know that oceans are vital for environmental balance. How does Sepiia contribute to protecting marine ecosystems or minimizing environmental impact on the oceans?
At Sepiia, we believe protecting the oceans is essential for the planet. That’s why we collaborate with initiatives like Seaqual, recovering plastics from the ocean and transforming them into recycled fabrics.
But our contribution goes beyond materials: we design garments that release fewer microplastics during washing and promote more conscious consumption. Our goal is to create a positive impact at every stage of the product life cycle, helping preserve marine ecosystems for future generations.
